The deal:

This site is another portal to my youtube videos, a place for friends to check in and check out the work I've been doing. The posts have some annotations and, like any blog, this is more of a personal journal than a public service.

Hip Hip Hippie

I never really was a hippie, I was in the Navy while all that was going on.  When I got out of the service after four years I was filled with a joy de vivre that's pretty evident in this old 8mm footage.  Regrettable I no longer have the hair.  My mother appears for a few moments and the guy with the shorter hair is my old friend ed.

The task depicted was the effort of moving a couple of railroad ties my mom was using to make a flower bed.

The freeze frame at the end is suitable 70s.

The Plan

I'd like to experiment with having my Youtube videos in a blog format.

Background:
I moved to Maryland in 2006 from Grand Rapids Michigan.  Grand Rapids has a public access television station - GRTV - with a long history in that medium.  I really enjoyed producing videos and having the opportunity to share them with the community.

I got spoiled by the experience and expected the same sort of outlet in Maryland - no such luck.  While casting about for a way to get my message "out there" a niece clued me in to Youtube; 104 videos later I'm happy as a clam with a video camera.

I'd like to think that a couple of them are pretty good and others (perhaps most) are just silly.  You be the judge.

Here's my most recent, about a cool place in the mountains of Pennsylvania.  Whenever my friend Alann suggests making a video I've learned that he has something very specific in mind and he's already done all the scripting, all I have to do is hit "record" and be his straight man.  The Thousand Steps is our second effort and was a lot of fun to shoot.  I was at a "down" period in my life and working with someone as cheerfully philosophical as Alann was a real tonic.

I hope you enjoy it.
